On the occasion of the 73rd International Human Right Day and 13th Human Right Magna Meet, SAP-Nepal organized a physical interaction program on “Contribution of CSOs in Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Nepal” in collaboration with National Human Right Commission and 13th Human Right Manga Meet convener on 11 December 2021 at SAP Nepal premises. A total of 30 males and 14 females attended the event chaired by Gita Bhattarai, Chairperson of SAP-Nepal. The event was organized abiding by strict norms and regulations of social distancing specified by the government of Nepal for conducting seminars and programs. The participants were principally from civil society, academicians, and students. A number of distinguished figures from civil society having wider expertise in the protection and promotion of civil rights were also present.
Narendra Prasad Joshi, Executive Director of SAP-Nepal expressed the organization’s commitment to continuing collaborating with Human Right Magna Meet to explore the contribution of CSOs in the promotion and protection of human rights in Nepal. According to Kapil Shrestha, a human rights activist, protecting and promoting human rights and humanitarian principles are essential for the sustainable growth and development of society. On the occasion, Charan Prasai congratulated the convener and co-conveners of the 13th Human Right Manga Meet as well as the National Human Right Commission’s collaborative partners for their excellent event planning and effective organizing of the event. He also highlighted issues relating to governance and human rights, fundamental principles, and the importance of human rights, preventing the practice of good governance against the spirit of people’s rights
The event was concluded with the concluding remarks of Mr. Jit Ram Lama; Chair of the NGO Federation of Nepal. He views that such initiatives have institutionalized human rights in Nepal during the insurgency period till date and should be continued in the coming days to enhance the voice of CSOs for widening human rights and state obligation in promotion and protection by the government. He further detailed that the national partner of CSOs of Magna Meet is functioning as a leader CSOs to influence bureaucrats, policymakers, and political leaders. During the event, the presence of three generations of human rights activists helped to generate a different perspective on CSOs’ contribution to human rights.
