‘Community Peace Building Programe Theough Women Group Empowerment’ project was implemented in 21 Village Development Committees (VDC) of three districts, viz., Banke, Bardiya and Surkhet, i.e., 7 VDCs in each district from Jan 2010 – March 2013. South Asia Partnership Nepal (SAP-Nepal) was a leading NGO for this project and responsible for its overall management. This project carried out in partnership of local NGOs named Tharu Women Upliftment Center Bardiya, and Social Awareness Centre, Surkhet. Disadvantaged, Tharu, Muslim, Madhesi, Dalitsand marginalized ethnic groups were the major target groups for this project, where rural women, children and men from the above groups and IDPs were the final beneficiaries. The evaluation team observed that this project directly benefited some 19000 people in all together from the target groups, likewise, about 135 stakeholders, line agencies, CBOs, women groups and other similar organizations.
The program has helped women to improve their status in family as well as in the community. As they were organized in 210 groups, involved in saving and credit activities, and working together for improving the social and economic conditions of family as well as that of community, the male counterparts of the family as well as others in the community have started giving them due respects now. This project provided inputs for their economic development.
The resource book was published with the financial assistance of European Union. The objective of this publication is to share experiences and learnings of this project with other organizations working in the field of women empowerment and the community members.
